Police car collides with minivan, DHL truck

TALLEYVILLE, Del. - November 21, 2011

The accident happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Concord Pike at Silverside Road.

Police spokesperson says the female officer was responding to assist another officer on a car stop of a local fugitive with her emergency lights and siren activated.

Police say the patrol car struck the rear of the minivan then spun around and struck a DHL delivery van which was traveling next to the minivan.

A 34-year-old male driver of the minivan and his 34-year-old female passenger were transported to Christiana Hospital with minor injuries.

4-year-old female twins who were also in the minivan were transported to the same hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

The 24-year-old police officer was transported to Wilmington Hospital, evaluated and released.

The DHL driver was not injured.

Concord Pike was closed northbound at Brandywine Boulevard and Silverside Road westbound was closed from Talleyville Plaza for approximately two hours while the accident was being investigated.

It remains under investigation.
