The Atlantic County Prosecutor's office said Patrick Latko, 32, was arrested around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at his home in Wenonah in Gloucester County.
Latko is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of 64-year-old Diana Patterson and her 29-year-old son, Ryan.
Latko was also charged two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. Bail was set at $2 million.
Authorities did not elaborate on the circumstances of the killing or Latko's connection to the Pattersons. Police earlier said they did not believe the killings were a random crime.
Police were called to the Patterson's home at 32 S. Madison Avenue around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 3rd.
Ryan had more than 20 stab and slash wounds, authorities said, while Diana suffered from more than 10.
Police say Ryan was able call 911 that morning before succumbing his wounds.
Forensic investigators removed about a dozen bags of evidence from the home as well as computer equipment on the day of the homicides.
A few days later, a knife was found in the yard of a home on 12th Street in Hammonton. Authorities now say they believe that knife was used in the killings.
Residents say Diana Patterson worked on medical records from home while Ryan was a motocross enthusiast who competed in the dirt bike sport regularly.
On the night after their bodies were discovered, a vigil was held at the Atco Raceway Ryan Patterson loved to compete on.
