"It's the perfect time to shop online and pick up those last-minute gifts with guaranteed delivery in time for Christmas," explains Andrea Woroch, spokeswoman for FreeShipping.org. "Over 2000 retailers will offer free shipping with guaranteed delivery at Christmas and 60% of the retailers offer free shipping with no minimum order."
Other retailers are offering free shipping once you reach a minimum order threshold. You can find the list of who's offering what at FreeShippingDay.com.
Free Shipping Day started several years ago to encourage online shopping toward the end of the holiday season -- when people are more likely to rush out to the mall.
Woroch explains, "What the founder of Free Shipping Day found was that online shopping peaked in early December. He started this day and got retailers to partciptiate in order to extend the online shopping season."I
f you don't take advantage of the free shipping deals today, you'll likely have to pay to get your gifts to their destination in time for the holidays. But then again, maybe not.
Woroch says, "There are some retailers that may offer free two-day shipping, as their last chance to capture holiday shoppers. They may offer free two-day or maybe even free overnight."
The catch is there's no guarantee the retailer you're shopping with is among them.
