Closing arguments begin in WikiLeaks case

FORT MEADE, Maryland - December 22, 2011

Prosecutors and defense attorneys are making their case Thursday on the seventh day of Pfc. Bradley Manning's hearing. Presiding officer Lt. Col. Paul Almanza will have until Jan. 16 to recommend whether the 19-year-old should stand trial for aiding the enemy and 21 other charges.

Manning is accused of giving large amounts of classified data to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks.

There is no deadline for a final decision by Maj. Gen. Michael Linnington.

The standard of proof is whether reasonable grounds exist to believe Manning committed the alleged offenses.
