Grand jury indicts man wounded in police shooting

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - January 8, 2012

Thirty-three-year-old Aaron Carter also faces weapons offenses in the indictment recently handed up by a Mercer County grand jury. He remains jailed on $150,000 bail, and officials did not know Sunday if he had retained a lawyer.

Prosecutors say Carter was shot multiple times June 25 after he pointed a gun at the detective.

The shooting occurred when police working on a burglary task force detail saw an apparent drug deal in which Carter allegedly was involved. Carter then ran off and was tackled by the detective, but he escaped and ran off again.

A brief chase ensued before Carter pulled out a handgun and the detective shot him.
