Because what happened on the night of November 7th, much of Darren Rogers' life is now confined to a chair.
He's paralyzed, can't move his legs, has little use of his arms and his voice is a whisper.
It is all the result of a bullet piercing his spine in an incident he remembers nothing about.
Rogers was walking to his job as a doorman at the Chocolate Works Apartments in Old City.
As he walked down the 400 block of Pine Street, two males approached him.
Suddenly, one of them took a swing and dropped Rogers to the ground. A struggle ensued.
Rogers fought back until one of the men pulled a gun and shot him.
The gunman lost a hat during the struggle and actually went back to retrieve it.
Right now, police have no leads or motive.
"We believe there was a football game that night, an Eagles game, Monday Night Football, maybe someone was at a local bar and saw these two individuals," Philadelphia Police Lt. Ray Evers said.
Residents of the Chocolate Works have been praying for Rogers to make a full recovery.
They say the 46-year-old is always quick with a smile and a helping hand.
"He did his job well. Late nights he would walk my wife to her car because she would work the midnight shift; I don't think a lot of people would do that," one resident said.
Sadly, Rogers may never be able to make that walk again.
He has one question for his attackers, "Why me? Why me?"
Police believe one of the attackers has a distinctive jacket.
They'd like people to take a closer look at the individuals in the above video.
