A steering wheel saved the life of a California driver during a frightening freeway incident.

A large metal pipe came through his windshield near Bakersfield.

Marcus Kasprzyk, of Turlock, California, told police he was traveling at 65 miles per hour, when he noticed a piece of metal come off a truck in front of him.

Police say that pipe would have impaled him if it didn't hit the steering wheel. Kasprzyk was treated for only minor injuries because of shattered glass.
