The incident happened just before 7:00 a.m. Thursday on the 1500 block of S Stanley Street.
According to investigators, one woman was tied and bound. A second was shot in the back after she attempted to fight back against the intruders.
Action News spoke to the second woman who was in the house at the time.
She says the men burst inside while the women and children were upstairs. The men yelled that they were police, and to put their hands up.
She says she soon learned that was not the case.
"When we came downstairs, it was two robbers," said the woman, who declined to give her name. "They had masks on, they had gloves on."
"They kept saying, 'Where's the money?'" she said. "We kept saying, 'We don't have any money. What do you want, the first-of-the-month card? You can have that.'"
"First-of-the-month card" is a reference to a government assistance program.
The woman says the men were able to tie her up downstairs. She said she thought "it was the end of my life."
The woman explains that as her friend tried to fight off the attackers she was shot in the back.
"She was tusseling with them and they shot her in the back," she said. She said her friend was trying to get away "to help us, because they kept saying they were going to kill all of us."
A neighbor who didn't want to be identified heard that woman screaming and ran outside to help.
"All I heard her say was, 'I was shot, I was shot! Someone help me, someone help me!'" said the neighbor. "I saw blood on her shirt so I ran outside and applied pressure to her wounds."
The 25-year-old victim is listed in stable condition at the hospital.
The two children who were also in the house at the time of the attack were unharmed.
Police say the two masked men escaped out the back door and were last seen running toward 31st Street.
Police are continuing their investigation.
