Online court records don't list an attorney for 28-year-old Ryan Bonace, of New Castle, who is being mailed a court summons to face charges of theft and receiving stolen property.
The New Castle News reports a woman reported the coat stolen late Thursday afternoon at Jameson Hospital, which is also in New Castle, about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
Police say they determined Bonace stole the coat and say he confessed that he wanted it for his girlfriend.
The Associated Press could not immediately locate a listed telephone for Bonace.
