Police chase forces shutdown of Philly subway

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - March 22, 2012

Officer Tanya Little, a Philadelphia police spokeswoman, says it started shortly before 3:45 p.m. Thursday. She says officers began pursuing the man, who was arrested on the tracks after about 10 minutes. Little says a gun was also recovered.

Little says the chase involved Philadelphia police officers and supervisors with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, whose transit officers went on strike Wednesday.

No injuries were reported. A SEPTA spokeswoman says the chase started at City Hall and that a large stretch of the subway line had to be closed for about 20 minutes.
