Consumer: Resolving daily deal complaints

PHILADELPHIA - April 25, 2012

The good news is that after we took action, all the consumers who contacted us finally received full refunds!

"I was getting nowhere, I was getting no answers," said John Hoffner of Maple Shade, N.J.

John was one of nearly two thousand people who took advantage of a daily deal which was emailed to inboxes across the country back on December 26th.

$85 for a 7-inch Google Android tablet supposedly worth nearly $400!

"I began to think that maybe it was a scam because it was weeks and weeks and I haven't received it," said Sandra Kelly of Medford, N.J.

Sandra also got in on the daily deal and waited more than two months for her tablet.

Then she watched our report on Action News and realized she had a lot of company.

"I knew right away that I wasn't getting the tablet or it would be low quality," she said.

We were already in contact with the company president, Gary Lipovetsky, trying to get answers on the hold up.

At that time Lipovetsky told me the tablets were being shipped by a third party, Fabuless, and the holiday rush was to blame.

But that wasn't the only issue. Viewers who did receive the tablet say this deal was nothing but a dud!

"When you download the books they're in Chinese!" said Roselee Maddaloni of Warminster, Pa.

"The quality of the unit is not worth $400," David Briggs of Upper Chichester, Pa.

We took the tablet to an expert who said the quality left much to be desired. We also notified Lipovetsky of all the complaints.

Lipovetsky promised Action News any viewer who purchased the tablet would receive full refunds if they wanted their money back.

"I received my money back and I am satisfied with 6abc's help," said John.

Sandra got a refund, too.

"Thank you so much because without your help I know I would have never received the refund," she told us.

Once again, we're happy to say ALL the viewers who contacted us did receive refund checks.

Meantime, Dealfind stands by the daily deal offer but promised to implement some new policies after our report to prevent problems like this one.
