76-year-old Helen Yang was struck and killed on Library Avenue by a hit-and-run driver who remained at large Tuesday night.
Newark Police say she was crossing Library Avenue westbound from a shopping center across the street when she was hit by a southbound vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
"She was badly injured, so I called 911," said Jonathan Feliciano. "There was another gentleman and a woman with her giving her CPR while I spoke to 911."
This is the description of the car witnesses on that busy thoroughfare gave police
"The vehicle was possibly a 1998-2002 Honda Accord four-door, and it may be black in color," Newark Police Lieutenant Mark Farrall told Action News.
Police are asking for the public's help in finding the hit-and-run driver who left this woman laying the road to die.
At the scene police found evidence the car in question may have been a Honda sedan.
Helen Yang was a grandmother who lived in a high-rise apartment building with her husband.
Their neighbors are in shock.
"At Christmas we exchanged Christmas cards and she sent me Chinese food one time because she knew I like it," said Shirley Eberly. "I'm just really sad about this."
Police say the Honda may have front end or right side damage particularly in the area of the right passenger mirror.
