New storms in NJ knock out power to nearly 70K

TRENTON, N.J. - July 8, 2012

The severe storms moved through the state before 9 p.m. Saturday.

According to Jersey Central Power & Light's website, more than 39,000 Monmouth County residents lost power and more than 25,000 residents in Ocean County lost electricity.

The company's website shows about 23,000 Jersey Central Power & Light customers remained without power as of 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Atlantic City Electric reports that 416 customers in Atlantic and Cape May counties are still without service after severe thunderstorms ripped through the area last weekend. That's down from a peak of 206,000 power customers.
