Hazmat crews called to VA Hospital for chemical leak

Hazmat crews spent the night dealing with a chemical leak at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Philadelphia Thursday night.

Crews were called out just before 9:00 p.m. to the 3900 block of Baltimore Avenue in University City.

The chemical involved was ethylene oxide, a flammable gas that can be fatal if inhaled.

Crews contained the material and the incident was placed under control within an hour.

No evacuations were required and no injuries reported.

The incident is under investigation.
