Montco town considers tough smoking ban

LANSDALE, Pa. - September 5, 2012

The borough council was set to meet Wednesday night to discuss a proposal that would ban smoking in parks, near pools, and possibly all public property.

Councilman Rich DiGregorio is behind the plan.

He told Action News it is not about suppressing the rights of smokers, but rather supporting the rights of non-smokers.

"Smoking, to me, should be in a different area. Not in the parks. The environment in the parks is supposed to be natural, healthy and promote fitness, not smoking," he said.

The ban would apply in addition to the state ban that applies to restaurants and work spaces.

The council was set to begin meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
