West Philadelphia fire leaves elderly woman critical

An elderly woman was critically injured during a house fire in West Philadelphia.

The fire broke out just after 6:00 p.m. in the upper floors of a two story semi-detatched home on the 400 block of North Redfield Street.

Arriving fire crews searched the home and removed a woman.

She is believed to be in her early to mid-70s.

Medics rushed the woman, who suffered smoke inhalation, to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for care.

The fire was placed under control at 6:19 p.m.

At this time, there is no word on a cause for the one alarm fire.
