Police: Montco nursing home worker stole jewelry from residents

LANSDALE, Pa. - September 11, 2012

Diane Witynski, 55, of Hatfield Township, Pa. is charged with multiple counts of theft and receiving stolen property.

Police say four residents of the Elm Terrace Gardens in Lansdale, Pa. reported thefts from their rooms on four separate occasions in late July and early August.

In three cases, the thief stole jewelry worth an estimated $5380. In the fourth case, $80 in cash was taken.

Investigators discovered that Witynski, who started working at Elm Terrace Gardens in June, was the only employee working on all four dates when the thefts happened.

Police say they also discovered that she had been selling jewelry to a jeweler in Hatfield Township, including at least one item that had been stolen from the nursing home.

Witynski was arrested at the Elm Terrace Gardens on September 1st.

She was released after posting $500 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for September 25th.
