Tree may not survive school

WACO, Texas (AP) - September 12, 2012

But it may not survive middle school.

School officials in Waco say the old tree is slatted to be cut down, to make way for a track and practice field at a new school.

District officials tell the Tribune-Herald there's no other place to put the track.

Baylor University forest ecology expert Joseph White says the tree should be saved.

He says it measures 133 inches around, but isn't the biggest in the state.
