Police: Man assaulted mother, cut own throat

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. - September 27, 2012

It all started just after 8:30 p.m. when police received a report of a domestic dispute at a home on President Avenue.

Arriving officers learned that a man had allegedly gotten into an argument with his mother because she didn't want him to drive, saying she thought he was intoxicated.

At some point in the dispute, the man allegedly pushed his mother and then cut his own neck with a knife before fleeing into the woods behind the home.

Authorities called in K-9 units and a State Police helicopter to help them in their search of the area.

After approximately three hours, the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Thomas Fell, was apprehended in a wooded area behind the nearby Lawrence Shopping Center, located along Route 1 near Texas Avenue.

Fell received treatment for his neck wound at a Trenton hospital, and is now in police custody, held in connection with domestic violence-related charges.
