Bail set for teens in videotaped beating of woman in Chester

CHESTER, Pa. - September 28, 2012

Those teens appeared in court on Friday morning where bail was set at 10% of $50,000. Charges include first degree aggravated assault and burglary.

Police say a total of six teenage girls attacked the woman on Tuesday night.

It was around 9:15 p.m. when the six high school girls gathered on a street corner and started rolling the video on a cell phone, police said.

At first, it seems they're just hanging out and goofing around for the camera. But then, they turn their attention to a woman sitting in front of her apartment down the block.

"Talk to her first. Talk to her first," one of the girls can be heard saying on the cell phone video.

The girls say something to the woman as they approach and then, without warning, one of them punches the woman.

The others join in punching and kicking her as she crawls inside. The girls follow right into her house where the mayhem continues. The victim makes it to a couch where one girl hits her with a chair.

Then they take turns crawling on top of her, pummeling her with their fists and laughing.

"We out. We out. We out," one of the girls says.

At that point, the girls scramble from the house and are again picked up by video surveillance as they run down the street.

The 48-year-old victim is mentally disabled and never called the police. However, authorities learned of the incident when a parent called after seeing the video posted on Facebook. The police have taken the victim to get treatment for her injuries.

"This is something that occurs in the city that normally we don't have evidence of. You hear about things like this, but you generally don't see them firsthand, as in this account," Chester Police Detective James Nolan said.

The victim's neighbor described the injuries to Action News.

"Her face is all beat up, swelling. She says doesn't want to stay here no more," neighbor Ken Worly said.

Other neighbors are outraged.

"That was wrong cause if it was my daughters, I would have brought them [to police] so you could have locked them up," neighbor Tanien Washington said.

The police have identified the girls in the video.
