Lower Merion reports 2 with whooping cough

LOWER MERION, Pa. - October 5, 2012

The district confirms that a fourth grade student and an eleventh grade student have been diagnosed with the disease, formally known as pertussis.

Whooping cough is highly contagious, so health officials suggest parents make sure their children are up-to-date on their vaccinations.

Also, you are asked to call a doctor if symptoms, such as uncontrollable fits of coughing, persist.

The Lower Merion School District says the two reported cases of pertussis are unrelated.
