Ex-Pa. coach jailed on drug parole violation

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - October 20, 2012

Thirty-two-year-old Brad Washburn was released from Northampton County prison in December, but Lehigh County police said he was found sleeping in a parking lot in May with drugs. He pleaded guilty to heroin possession and was sentenced to one to two years.

Authorities said the former Bangor Area High School coach smoked marijuana and drank with students, charges that stemmed from a probe into the 2009 drug overdose death of a fellow teacher at his apartment.

Northampton County Judge Leonard Zito told him Friday that "death and destruction" had followed him wherever he went.

Washburn said he had been unfairly demonized and never provided drugs to children.
