It was shortly after 2:00 a.m. when surveillance cameras caught a pickup truck crashing through the Valero gas station on the 2100 block of Centre Avenue.
Police say the thief tried to steal the ATM from the store, but was unsuccessful. Instead, the driver grabbed the cash register, jumped back into the vehicle and drove off.
Other ATMs in the area have been targeted recently, including one at a convenience store at North 10th and Windsor Streets. Police aren't sure if the incidents are related.
No arrests have been made.
A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913.
