The students are rehearsing a play by Neil Simon called "Rumors" and several of the actors are portraying police officers in the production.
Detective Robert Allmond volunteered to participate in the play rehearsal.
The students used method acting, making observations from real people and bringing what they learn to the stage.
However their only experience with the police is what they've seen on TV and in the movies.
"Nothing matches having the real guy be here, absolutely not, you can't beat the real influence," said Kristen Caiazzo, play director.
Detective Allmond had advice for the students on how to portray their roles more authentically.
"How do you make someone feel more comfortable while simultaneously making sure they know you have to get these answers from them," asked Lauren Bertino.
"That's a great question, you're trying to read people," said Detective Allmond.
The students say having a real police officer at rehearsals has given them an entirely new perspective on their characters.
The play runs at Abington Senior High School from Nov. 15-17. Tickets cost $10 for general admission and $8 for students and senior citizens.
