FEMA pays out nearly $248M in NJ

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -November 26, 2012

FEMA says 230,162 residents have registered for assistance.

There are 33 disaster recovery centers open in the state.

FEMA says it has completed inspecting 96 percent of the homes that it was requested to check.

Gov. Chris Christie says the preliminary estimate for cleaning up damage caused by Sandy will cost about $29.4 billion in New Jersey.

Christie says that estimate could go higher as the state continues to evaluate the damage.
