Camden buyback program nets record number of guns

New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa's office says he will travel to the impoverished city on Tuesday to announce the results alongside local officials and religious leaders.

Gun buyback programs are a common tactic for addressing violence in New Jersey's cities. But Camden's circumstances this year are especially tragic.

A 25-year-old woman was found shot to death outside her apartment on Sunday night, making her the city's 67th homicide victim of the year. The number of slayings far exceeds the previous record of 58 in the city of fewer than 77,000 residents.
