Database tracks Sandy-damaged vehicles

Officials in New Jersey are trying to prevent consumers from unknowingly buying a vehicle damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

An online database has been created listing the vehicle identification numbers of vehicles damaged to flooding or other means.

Since the hurricane hit in late October, more than 13,000 vehicles have been processed as damaged.

It is not illegal to sell a vehicle with either a flood- or salvage-title, but there are specific requirements to ensure potential buyers know the status of a vehicle.
