Police identify man shot dead in Wilmington

Police have identified the man shot dead in Wilmington, Delaware Wednesday night.

Ioannis Kostikidis, 53, was a security guard at the American Beauty Academy in the 200 block of West 9th Street.

Police believe he was walking to his car after work when two men tried to rob him.

It happened just before 9:00 p.m. on the 600 block of North Tatnall Street.

Officers arrived to find Kostikidis lying in a parking lot.

Authorities say he had been shot in the upper body. Medics rushed him to Christiana Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing south on North Tatnall Street. They are described as black males, wearing black hooded sweatshirts with the hoods pulled over their faces.

An investigation is underway.
