Police officers attacked by man who called 911

GLOUCESTER TWP., N.J. - February 24, 2013

The call came in just before 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Police say the man on the line was disoriented and asking for help.

The first officer on the scene met the man, identified as 28-year-old Ibrahim Dao, in the 200 block of LaCascata townhome development.

Dao started yelling incoherently at the officer, police say, picked him up in the air and slammed him into the ground.

The officer hit Dao with pepper spray, but it had no effect.

Other officers arrived as Dao continued to fight, even after being handcuffed.

Dao was taken to the hospital for treatment, as the officers suspected he was on drugs.

Afterward, he was taken to the Gloucester Township Police Department and charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and obstruction.

He is being held on $35,000 cash bail.

Several officers were being treated for minor injuries and were checked out due to effects from pepper spray and "bodily fluids exposure" during the incident.

One officer was transported to the hospital where he was treated for a hand injury and released.
