Love the Arts: Peter Nero and The Philly Pops

CENTER CITY - March 3, 2013

This is Peter Nero's final season leading the Pops and this month, his successor will be taking the podium for the very first time. It's a concert series that pays tribute to The Fab Four with guest artists 'Classical Mystery Tour.'

Frank Giordano/President, Peter Nero & The Philly Pops said, "It's something you would never see, in any type of Beatles program, because it's really how the Beatles made their music."

They would record the vocals then they would layer on strings, and then the symphonic and we'll be doing that. You'll actually see how they created a recording with the full Pops orchestra behind them.

The concert will be directed by Michael Krajewski, pops conductor of the Atlanta, Houston and Jacksonville Symphonies. Come October, he'll add Philadelphia to his resume…officially becoming only the 2nd maestro in the Pops 34 year history.

"There's no one to replace Peter. It's going to be different. It's going to be exciting,'' said Giordano.

Unlike Peter Nero, Krajewski does not play piano but the Pops leadership says he's known as one of the best concert programmers in the business.

"It's the music you know, the music you're familiar with, presented in a refreshing way. and that's what you're going to find with this Beatles show," said Giordano.
