Police ID woman found dead on road in Bridgeton, N.J.

BRIDGETON, N.J. - March 20, 2013

The victim is identified as 54-year-old Bernadette Montgomery of New Castle, Delaware. She was last seen alive getting off of the Route 410 New Jersey Transit bus.

Police also believe they have identified the driver of the striking vehicle, but what they are investigating now is if that driver knew that they hit somebody or if this is a case of hit-and-run.

We are also told that a New Jersey Transit bus was involved in the incident, but it is unclear how.

Just before 7:00 p.m. a passerby discovered Montgomery's body in the street and immediately called 911.

Investigators spent most of the night working the scene, blocking off McCormick Place near Pearl Street.

Surveillance video from a liquor store nearby shows a New Jersey transit bus approaching the area about ten minutes before the woman was discovered.

The owner of the liquor store, Ranbir Boyal, explained that police are using that video in their investigation.

Boyal tells us, "Police come in here. They've already come in and looked at my cameras and stuff to see if they can get anything. If I can help them get any information, I will. Like, they asked me to make a copy of my video, which I'm working on."

Police will only say that they have interviewed three New Jersey Transit drivers who drove that route last night and were seen on surveillance.

Action News talked to a spokesperson for New Jersey Transit who explained that they do not comment on ongoing investigation, however, they are assisting police in whatever they need.

An autopsy on the victim is expected today.
