Firefighters were called to battle a 3-alarm warehouse fire in North Philadelphia.

Crews were called out to the 1800 block of West Sedgley Avenue just before 6:00 a.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy flames and smoke pouring from the second floor of a two-story building in what officials called an industrial area.

Fire crews inside of the building were ordered to evacuate, but continued to fight the fire from the outside.

Officials say propane tanks caused several small explosions and hazmat crews have been called in to investigate.

The fire was brought under control just before 10:00 a.m.

Some neighboring residents in the 2700 block of Gratz Street were evacuated as a precaution. The Red Cross assisted several families who remain without power, but has since closed the comfort center at Dobbins High School.

There have been no reports of injuries and no word on what may have sparked the blaze.
