Hit-and-run driver hits man sleeping on Kensington street

KENSINGTON - May 27, 2013

The bizarre incident happened around 3:40 a.m. in the 600 block of East Ontario Street in Philadelphia's Kensington section.

A witness told police that he came across the white male who was lying in the middle of the street unresponsive. When the witness went to get his phone to call 911, he said he saw a car turn the corner, and before he could signal to the driver, the car struck the man in the roadway.

According to police, the victim got stuck under the vehicle and was dragged along the roadway for two blocks to the 3400 block of Crystal Street.

It is believed the driver realized someone was pinned under the car and then sped off.

The victim, a 40-year-old man, is now hospitalized at Temple University in serious condition with head injuries.

Police are now searching for a blue Chrysler 300 taxi cab with silver trim around the window and a cage in the rear.
