Sarah's aunt, Sharon Ruddock, confirmed to Action News that Sarah is still on a ventilator and unable to speak, but nods her head and blinks in response to her mother, indicating she understands what is being asked.
Janet Murnaghan posted an update about her daughter on her Facebook page Friday that read: "Awake and nodding yes and no to questions. She is still intubated and frustrated that she can't talk."
Another Facebook post explained that Sarah was moved on Wednesday from a heavy-duty breathing machine to a traditional ventilator.
Janet Murnaghan called that "a big step" toward being able to wake Sarah from the heavy sedation she's been under since the June 12th operation.
Friday night, the family told Action News they were hopeful the tube could be removed sometime early next week.
Sarah is from Newtown Square, just west of Philadelphia. She suffers from severe cystic fibrosis.
She underwent a six-hour operation at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia after a judge intervened in her case and gave her a chance at the list of organs from adult donors, not just child donors.
Sarah's family had said pediatric lungs are rarely donated.
