Freight train derails in Delaware; no injuries

MILLSBORO, Del. - July 14, 2013

Delaware State Police say the 70-car train pulled by two locomotives derailed in a wooded area north of Millsboro early Sunday morning. Police say about 15 cars were forced off the tracks and overturned. The two locomotives derailed but remained upright.

The train conductor and engineer were not injured in the derailment. Police say about ¾ of a mile of track was heavily damaged or destroyed.

Police say there are no hazardous conditions or environmental threats as a result of the derailment. The tracks run along US 113, but there are no detours or road closures.

State troopers and officials from Norfolk Southern are investigating what caused the derailment.
