Dog reunited with owner in Rittenhouse Square, police say

PHILADELPHIA - July 15, 2013

According to Philadelphia Police Commanding Officer Frank Banford, Betty the dog is back home with her owner Alison Rans.

"Sent my Crime prevention officer, Steve Kiefer, out to check out apt buildings. Guess who was located in Rittenhouse Park. 'Betty' the dog!!" Banford tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

Rans arrived home Friday evening to find her Walnut Street apartment ransacked.

Someone stole her television set and her laptop.

But more importantly, little Betty was gone.

Alison has been fostering the rescue pooch for the past four months.

"Who takes a dog? A little six-pound dog who's probably terrified. She was in a crate. There was no reason to take her, no reason at all," she said.

Alison said four other break-ins have occurred in her building recently.

The search is still on for those who took Betty from her home.
