Police say the man was walking his dog outside his Paris Court townhouse complex when he was assaulted just before midnight Saturday.
Police say the man was treated for injuries to his head and face.
Police Lt. Steve Allaire tells the Asbury Park Press the attackers were identified as Hispanic and the 36-year-old victim was not.
Police have recovered the bat and the vehicle used by the attackers.
The victim's name has not been released for his protection.
