Vehicle crashes through storefront in Northeast Philadelphia

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA - August 16, 2013

It happened after 5:00 p.m. Friday at the Academy Plaza shopping center in the 3200 block of Red Lion Road.

Officials say minutes after people went home for the day, an elderly man behind the wheel of a Mercedes slammed through the front wall.

Witnesses say the 80-year-old driver was conscious and not seriously hurt right after the crash.

He told them he suffered a medical condition, and may have blacked out.

Medics took him to Aria-Torresdale Hospital in stable condition.
