Bullet wound found on crash victim in Fairmount Park

FAIRMOUNT PARK - August 17, 2013

Police and firefighters responded to the 1400 block of North 33rd Streetshortly after 2:00 a.m. Saturday where they found a vehicle that had struck a tree, trapping the driver inside of the vehicle.

Fire crews worked for several minutes to cut the 30-year-old male driver free from the vehicle.

The victim was transported by medics to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

It was during his treatment at the emergency room that doctors discovered a gunshot wound in the victim's neck that had been hidden by a neck brace put on by medics at the crash scene.

Police soon discovered a handgun on the front seat, as well as several bullet holes in the victim's car that was heavily damaged from the crash.

Investigators believe the victim had been involved in a shootout at another location. Homicide detectives and CSI are now attempting to find out exactly where the shooting took place.
