The incident happened on Sunday morning in the 600 block of Westerly Drive at the border of Evesham and Mount Laurel townships.
Police say the 7-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk when a man driving a gray SUV, with a young child in a car seat, approached.
The man apparently told the boy "I have your birthday gift. Get in the truck."
The boy ran away.
The suspect is described as a white male, mid to late twenties, blonde short hair, and no facial hair.
