Shutdown has shut out weddings

WASHINGTON (AP) - October 4, 2013

Now, the Episcopal bishop of Washington is offering an alternative -- the National Cathedral.

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde says couples can use the Bishop's Garden for free, for their outdoor ceremonies.

The bishop adds the church wants to support its neighbors in the nation's capital.

Weddings for 24 couples have been postponed for sites on the National Mall, like the Jefferson Memorial.

Many locations have been put off-limits because of the government shutdown.
