Governor Chris Christie and other stakeholders cut the ribbon on Monday, marking the grand opening of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. It's a partnership that aims to provide the best cancer care to the area.
"This is a really special day for all the people who will walk through these doors in the years to come," said Governor Christie.
MD Anderson is known for its state-of-the-art technology, as well as its innovative treatments and research.
Dr. Ronald DePinho, the President of the center in Texas, was here today and he says the joint effort will bring more clinical trials, advancing the fight against cancer.
Dr. DePinho explains, "Even patients unable to seek care still benefit from what we have learned and created here today."
Doctor Generosa Grana also says the new center was designed to help calm patients with open spaces, a rooftop garden and local art are some of its features.
Dr. Grana says, "At the end of the day, we want to make it the most comfortable for the patient and the safest because we wanted to make sure nurses had constant view of the patients."
The Mayor of Camden was also on-hand today. She says the new center not only brings hope for cancer patients but also for the city of Camden.
