The incident occurred at 6:17 a.m. at the intersection of 22nd and Chestnut Street.
Officials say the Route 42 bus was turning onto 22nd because of some detour work when it struck the victim, who was crossing the street.
The victim had to be extricated from the bus and medics rushed him to Hahnemann University Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
There were seven other people on the bus at the time of the accident.
No other injuries were reported.
The victim's name has not been released.
