Police say it was around 12:30 a.m. Friday when 19-year-old Ethan Connolly, of Medway, Massachusetts, was walking with two friends.
As they crossed the northbound lanes of Route 896 (South College Road) at GBC Drive in Glasgow, Connolly and 18-year-old Daniel Bernstein of New York City were struck by a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck.
Connolly, a sophomore at the university's College of Arts and Sciences, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Medics took Bernstein, a freshman at the University of Delaware College of Business, to Christiana Medical Center with injuries said to be non-life-threatening.
There was no reported injury to the third friend.
The driver of the pickup truck, Linwood McLean, 48, of Bear, Delaware, was not injured.
Police say the light was green when McLean drove through the intersection.
They say the teens were not crossing at a marked crosswalk and were not carrying a flashlight when they were hit.
So far no charges have been announced.
The University of Delaware said it will be providing counseling for students who request it.
