Delaware man charged with 5th DUI after crashing

NEW CASTLE, Del. - November 7, 2013

The incident happened just before 12:30 p.m. on North DuPont Highway and North of Christiana Road.

56-year-old Mark D. Cooper was driving erratically and honking his vehicle's horn, officials say.

A trooper attempted to pull Cooper over but he kept driving north before going through a parking lot and exiting and continuing east on Boulden Boulevard.

The trooper finally ended the pursuit after finding the 1998 Ford Ranger crashed into a tree with Cooper inside.

Officials say, Cooper was in possession of twenty-nine grams of marijuana and under the influence of the drug.

The suspect was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

He was discharged Wednesday and charged with his fifth offense DUI.

Other charges included disregarding a police officer's signal, possession of marijuana, driving while suspended or revoked, and numerous moving violations.

He was arraigned and released on $1,050 unsecured bail.
