DA: 2 Upper Darby cops cleared of wrongdoing

UPPER DARBY TWP., Pa. - November 27, 2013

In a news release issued Wednesday afternoon, D.A. Jack Whelan said there was insufficient evidence that officers Michael Givens, 39, and Ryan Wisely, 32, violated any criminal statutes.

Whelan said the investigation and review of the matter is now complete.

Earlier this month, Givens and Wisely - who were terminated following the initial allegations - got their jobs back following an arbitration panel's ruling.

The pair were fired back in July following the alleged assault of a juvenile.

The incident reportedly happened in the cell block area in June and was caught on video, though that video has not been released.

The incident in question apparently happened after three juveniles had been arrested for shoplifting.

Whelan said the Office of the District Attorney Special Investigations Unit "conducted an extensive, independent investigation into the incident, including interviewing all of the teenagers who were involved in the incident, as well as all of the officers present."
