Wilmington police have arrested a man they say robbed two women and pistol-whipped one of them.

It happened about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday on North Clayton Street. Police say the women were walking when a man jumped out from behind a tree brandishing a handgun.

Officers say the man demanded property, pushed one woman against a car and pistol-whipped her.

Authorities say witnesses went to the women's aid and the robber fled on a bicycle. Police officers say they saw the suspect, who got off the bike and ran. Authorities found him hiding in a back yard.

Eighteen-year-old Branden Moore of Wilmington has been charged with robbery and aggravated menacing.
