Philadelphia police had been looking for a silver 2004 Ford Escape.
It was stolen from the 900 block of Longshore Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the officer had left the car running when he ran back inside for a moment to retrieve something he had forgotten.
His service weapon, ammunition, uniform, wallet, handcuffs, his badge and police ID were all in the vehicle.
The SUV was recovered around 7:45 a.m. in the 2100 block of Medary Ave. after it struck a house.
The suspect fled the scene.
All of the officer's items were still in the vehicle, police said.
