49-year-old Michael Furey of West Deptford was sentenced to 7 years in state prison Wednesday and ordered to register as a sex offender.
The former biology teacher at Paulsboro High School pretended to be a teenage boy online, and tried to have a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old student in 2010.
He was convicted last month on luring and official misconduct charges, and will be subject to parole for the rest of his life.
