It happened around 7:00 Saturday evening near 5th and Market streets.
Authorities say a that an underground cable somehow sparked the fire.
No injuries were reported.
PECO officials say roughly 250 customers were impacted but power has since been restored to most of them.
Crews plan to have power restored to the remaining customers by about 10:00 p.m.
